Part 7 | The Bobcat

Dusted.  Mountainside trails
Paved along lush valleys
Lavish homes.  Scenic views
High about the city smog
Arid. Dry.  Quiet.  Relaxed
Letters stand tall.  Tall in the distance
A great attraction.  A symbol
A dreamer’s symbol
The Hollywood Sign

Heat rising.  The sign nears
Ahead on the path.  A small pup
Brown and dirty.  Covered in filth
Panting.  Underneath the succulent’s shade
Removing my canteen.  I pour cool water gently in his mouth
Once quenched.  I pour the cool liquid onto his dusty coat
Massaging it into his fur
With a shake.  He jumps up.  Runs off.  Gleeful

The cry.  A mighty roar.  Fills the mountain air
Dust.  Emerging from the sign’s letter “O”
Moving faster.  Toward where I stand
Trail of dust behind
Pointed ears.  Whiskered face.  Spotted coat
Running fierce.  Until
A sudden halt.  Locking eyes
Piercing eyes
The Bobcat

He Speaks

“Thankful.  I am
For your care of my animal companion
You grow weary of the greed harnessed within
I see a great potential from you
If only you ask it of yourself
You have my favor.  To embark on your quest
Go now.  Greedy one
Seek out my feline sister in the south.
She dwells in a park.  Overlooking the sea
Ring the great bell there.  A gift from our Asian brethren
She will appear at the sound of the bell
Go now.  Find The Tiger
